“My karate life started when I was a carefree, bored little four year old whose mother strongly believed that all children have hidden potentials. That it is the parents’ responsibility to try and bring out these potentials so that their children can grow up to be productive individuals with high moral values. My mum believed that there are several avenues to do this. Karate was my choice. At the age of five, I started having rigorous Karate training. After six months, I started competing in tournaments. That was when my love for Karate blossomed. Up until now, I still find competing to be a thrilling and exciting part of my life.

When my family moved to New Zealand from the Philippines, I persisted on finding the right DOJO for me and my siblings to train at. SSKANZ was the definite choice for us. SSKANZ brings out each individual’s talents and potentials not only in martial arts but other aspects in life such as respect for yourself and others, integrity and discipline. At SSKANZ, we believe that perfection can be achieved through determination and hard work.

Senior New Zealand Team Karateka

"I am a passionate and committed internationally ranked karate player. My aim is not only to represent New Zealand in an international level but also to place in the medal tables. It would be an honour to stand in a podium, bearing the New Zealand flag and listen to our national anthem.

My biggest achievement so far is ranking 5th in the Karate World Games, held at Taiwan in 2010. I had to gain first place in the Oceania tournament to represent the continent. I have also ranked 3rd in World University Games in Montenegro, which is the highest achievement from a female Kiwi in that level.

Guidance form the Lord, determination and support are the components that has gotten far in the sport. I would be grateful to gain any financial support to help me further my career in Karate."
